Try a little

Here's the scoop. I'm just a couple months short of three years here at the Times Herald. I can't honestly tell you where the time has gone. The other day while looking for something in the basement I can't even recall now I came across the binders of clips my grandma saved for me from my first year here. While flipping through them I found some really nice frames and it has had me thinking the last couple of days how excited I was to be making pictures. I want that excitement back. So I'm starting over. I'm going to try to stop just pushing the button but instead study the light and get back to making simple pictures. I tried a little tonight and for the first time in a while I feel like I can't believe I get paid to do this.

"Just keeping your balance"

I found these two springing along the sidewalk this afternoon while out cruising in the warmer weather. " Just keeping your balance," I was told is the secret of a fine pogo ride. Their hearts were fearless. " I've only been on it a week," Kalvin shouted." And he's pretty good. He can do one and and no hands," Raine chirped up.

Phil

I met Phil tonight as he was setting up the spare classroom at the rec department for the weekly chess club. I snapped this frame before the bulk of the players sat down. There's not much to say I just like photographing older folks.

Rain day

I've been eyeing up this tree near my house for a couple of weeks the rain today gave me some nice light. The web just doesn't do it justice.

Back to the ballpark

I shot my first game of the season this afternoon although I left after the third inning because of the cold. The sun was warm but the wind won the battle. Despite the temperature it still felt good to get back to the ballpark.

Hope for Preston

I was busy today and only had a few minutes to spend at the YMCA during a swimming class for autistic kids. Hope runs the class where the kids can play with others in the pool while learning about swimming and themselves. It seemed like a lot of fun. I was just happy to see so many smiles on little faces.

John "Johnny Dog" Moldwan

I had a dream. I did my best.
For two long years and lots of tears.
God give me strengh for this marathon walk.
I'm sure for my cause, people will talk.

I went to photograph Johnny dog in his garage making a sign to protest the City Council's decision that prevents him from selling hot dogs by the river. What really blew me away was his cool garage. He's got it decked out.

Spring

Today is the first day of spring and I am more than happy to see it. I think the chickens are pretty happy to be rid of the snow too. I picked up seven more on Wednesday and they seemed strong enough for a quick photo this afternoon on the kitchen floor. The older girls spent the afternoon free in the yard.

It's not freezing

I spent a little time at the Marysville Golf Course this afternoon wearing my vest. It was their first open day of the season. Despite the squishy ground it was nice, real nice. I know it's not going to stay but the small peek at spring keeps my mind happy. Here's to warmer weather.

Emma

I spent a little time between assignments at my Dad's place today with family. Emma was there and full of spunk. She's my cousin Ryan's little girl and cute as a button. Grandma even got in on some of the loving.

St. Patty

Today was the Pub Crawl downtown and the Irish were out in force. I spent a little over an hour this afternoon making portraits of the most unusual folk along a wall in the shade. Here are few that stick out in a crowed of hundreds.

Friday night show

I spent about an hour with young boxers from across the state Friday night. Big Dog Boxing club put on a memorial show at McMorran. I know I say this every time I photograph these kids but they have heart. Jim Smedley knows how to run a program.
